Review: Shiseido Synchro Skin Glow Cushion Compact in Ochre 20

Monday, April 3, 2017

It's been a while! I actually started to write this post in January but I had been incredibly busy with my work and filing my tax return. I bought MANY beauty products in the past few months so I had been like "I want to blog about this and this and this...", I just had enough time to sit in front of my Mac and write posts in English.

Today I will be reviewing Shiseido Synchro Skin Glow Cushion Compact. It is the first cushion foundation from Shiseido which was launched in November 2016. I think it's currently available only in Asia.

I used to use and love Korean cushion foundations because of its convenience in the use, however, I no longer use them because I was told by some people that I should stop using them as Korean pharmaceutical laws are not as strict as those in Japan and after researching by myself, there are some doubts in the ingredients used in Korean beauty products which make me hesitate to use.

Why I decided to buy this cushion foundation from Shiseido even it is made in Korea (as a Korean company owns the patent of cushion foundations) is because Shiseido appropriately publicizes the full ingredient list under the Japanese pharmaceutical laws. I just want to use only safe products :)

This cushion contains 12g of product and SPF23 PA++ sun protection.

The compact and the refill are sold separately. A puff is included in each refill. I tried to refill this Shiseido cushion into my Sulwhasoo cushion compact but it was a little bigger and didn't fit.

The compact is hefty and well made. There is nothing special about the case or the inside of it, the cushion is sealed to prevent it from drying just like other cushions.

Smooth puff. It's typical of all cushion puffs that come with Korean cushion foundations.

There are only three shades available in Japan - Ochre 10, Ochre 20 and Pink Ochre 20. Seems they have wider range of shades in other countries. I picked Ochre 20 as I am Ochre 20 in Cle de Peau foundations - Cle de Peau is Shiseido's high prestige brand, just in case you don't know.

With one layer this offers a medium coverage. You can build it easily to offer a full coverage but it appeared a bit cakey and "made up" when I tried to make a fuller coverage - maybe just the shade was a little dark for me. I will prefer using concealer in specific spots instead of applying additional layer of the foundation.

Yes it looks VERY dark in the pictures above as I put too much foundation on my forearm. The actual shade is not that dark, sorry. Here is a comparison swatch.

The finish is glowy without being shiny or extremely dewy which I really like. I tend to add a touch of powder to my T-zone with Cosme Decorte Marcel Wanders Face Powder, just to be safe. The longevity is impressive - this wears all day for me. I also find this Synchro Skin Glow Cushion Compact to be very moisturizing. Probably the most moisturizing cushion foundation I've ever used. Even on days when my skin is particularly dry, it blends and sits quite well on the skin. Never felt drying with this foundation.

The only negative comment I have about the foundation is that there are only 3 shades available, which is quite limited.

I used daily this winter, and the refill I first purchased lasted for a month and half. Now I'm thinking of getting another refill.
