Sample Review: Albion EXCIA AL Cream and Emulsion foundations

Wednesday, December 9, 2015

Albion EXCIA AL Superior Cream Foundation has been on my wish list for a while. I just can't forget how wonderful my face looked with it. Recently my Albion SA gave me some more samples of the cream foundation and their emulsion foundation named Moist Emulsion Compact VX, so here are my thoughts on these two.

The samples I got are both in NA201, light natural shade. Superior Cream Foundation and Moist Emulsion Compact VX comes in 6 shades. NA shades are described as having neutral undertone between warm and cool, but the Albion SA says all of EXCIA foundations tend to be a little pink. I think so too and NA is distinctly pink on my skin. OC have more yellow tones which match my skin tone.

I've read many reviews saying Superior Cream Foundation is the best foundation on the market. It definitely is, I'm sure. When I wore it for the first time, I was truly impressed with the finish. It provides high coverage yet look natural - it just looks like I have great skin. Also while wearing this foundation, I noticed all my makeup looked much better. My eyes looked perfect and my everyday blush never looked better. I didn't even know that foundation could be such important part of makeup.

Emulsion foundations are not my thing. In general, they are thick like liquid concealers and don't apply smoothly and evenly. However, this EXCIA one is easy to apply and blends well. The coverage is less compared to the cream foundation, but still high.

It was hard to photograph but the finishes of each foundation are a little different. Cream offers a semi-matte finish with a hint of luminescence which I absolutely love, and emulsion one is more dewy.

I also got samples of Makeup Serum, a foundation primer from the EXCIA makeup range, and it worked very well. As the name indicates, it's almost like a serum as it melts into skin instantly and is really moisturizing. Love it as well.

Will I purchase the cream foundation? Probably yes. It's pricey but the quality of the foundation is amazing.

In case you're interested in purchasing, you can find Albion Excia AL Superior Cream Foundation at everglowcosmetics.com.

  1. Hi! Would you recommend the cream foundation to someone with skin on the oily side living in a hot and humid environment? I was reading the reviews on your shop and a girl with dry skin said that the foundation seemed to "dry out" after a few hours.

Thank you so much for posting this! I hope you'll be able to review more Japanese foundations in the future. ♥

    1. Hi Dianne, thank you for your comment! This Excia cream foundation dries to a semi-matte finish but it still keeps the skin hydrated all day without being greasy. I have combination skin (oily t-zone and extremely dry cheeks) and I've been using a full-size tube of this foundation for a few months now, and I've never felt this dries out or gets too oily. Other around $200 foundations I've tried (Cosme Decorte AQ Meliority, Kanebo Twany, Guerlain Orchidee) are very moisturizing and I don't think they are perfect for summer as my face gets super shiny with them.

I'd recommend this cream foundation to anyone, in any environments. Using Elegance La Poudre face powder as setting powder would be good too if you have oily skin, it really helps stay fresh and matte.

It's getting really hot and humid here in Tokyo, so I use light primer underneath and try to apply a smaller amount of the foundation. Will keep seeing if it works in the summer and post a review soon!
